Throwback Thursday

This small space brief caught my eye because of the bold choice to use very graphic wallpaper!  From the Domino May 2006 issue, very much in style in 2011 as a resurgence in wallpaper is for sure happening now.

Shockingly Crate

Recently I received a Crate and Barrel catalog in the mail.  While I like the accessories and kitchen tools at this place I never was too over board for the furniture as it was a bit conservative and too mainstream for my taste.  Well, surprise, surprise when I opened the catalog to see some really beautiful pieces!  I absolutely love the Danish inspired table and sideboard pictured above.  Definitely worth trip to check out.

These pieces go right along with my recent Mad Men obsession

Open plan + beautiful light = me sad in my current apartment

Throwback Thursday

Another throwback from Domino 2006 a topic that never gets old...how does one display photos.  Family photos can be really tricky as they can be extremely personal and can easily veer into more of the cheesy, uncomfortable feelings then those of genuine interest and warm fuzzies.  Some of the displays here do it right.

The uber cool cork wall on the left is great...displaying old and new at once in an organized, thoughtful way, while the boards on the right remind me more of my high school bedroom then a modern artists' home

Throwback Thursday

So I am making Thursday's officially "Throwback Thursdays" here at Americanina.  Reason being I just have so many old magazines (mainly Domino) with old articles that are still relevant for today.  So Thursday will officially be the day to revisit the old, thus the title "Throwback."  Since July is almost upon us I selected this article about a beach bungalow on Nantucket Island....gets one in the mood for summer nights, seabreezes (both the literal ones and the drinks) grilling, suntans... you know all the stuff that goes along with this time of year.

I like how he just stuck the decorative papers so they are not permanent.

Love the paintings hanging outside by the makeshift bar

Fishs Eddy

Every time I visit New York City I stop by this place, Fishs Eddy.  It is a cut little store that sells dishes.  Mostly new dishes that are created for their store but also old dishes from closed restaurants, airplanes, estate sales etc.  The products are fairly priced too.  Plus they offer shipping so if you don't want to lug back dishes in your suitcase they can take care of it for you.  This store is right across from the ABC store (post to come later) so it is a great stop, 889 Broadway at 19th.  http://www.fishseddy.com/

I purchased a cake stand here for my mom one year, they are really beautiful

I forgot to mention silverware too!

Firsts

Sample of our invitation and thank you cards, (I hand screen printed the thank you's, a super fun project)

Yesterday was my first wedding anniversary.  I so wish I was where I was last year now!  As you might know and/or have guessed my husband is from Italy and that is where we were married.  In a tiny seaside town in Tuscany.  I know this post is shamefully personal but there are travel, food and design elements throughout.  Enjoy and Auguri to me!

Confetti (these are given out in the bomboniere [Italian for favor] ) you must give 5 pieces.

The accent color in our wedding was orange.  We had trouble agreeing at first on the color, but we took the advise on selecting a color that we used in our apartment in a picture, decoration etc.  We had picked out an orange KitchenAid mixer and this was really the only color in our apartment so thus the choice was made.

Planning for my wedding is how I really fell in love with Etsy.  I had two ring bearer bowls and small ornaments made from an Etsy store, Paloma's Nest.  Super friendly and professional to work with.

A view of the ceremony from the back of the church, this was the church my husband grew up attending

Instead of throwing long grain rice our guests threw arborio rice (used for making risotto)  at us!

Our wedding meal with our guests is one of the most memorable meals I have had

Domino Deux

Saw this article from the Domino December 2007 issue.  I love the couples casual, cool feeling of their home.  Feminine touches balanced by masculine pieces and materials.  Perfect California modern feeling, (and anyone who has frenchies I already know has style!)

The skull lamp is a great way to incorporate a unique and/or trendy item

Love this long, simple table, one end someone can have a snack while at the other someone can work on a laptop

I would lift these chairs out of the picture and call them my own if possible

Juventus colored frenchies!

I like the Buddha accent pieces, my Mom has one she purchased on a trip to Thailand, who knew back then how chic it would become

Fresh....literally

I absolutely love Fresh products.  I started using them about 6 years ago starting with the hair products.  They just smell so wonderful, you feel like you are at a spa (even if you are stuck in your tiny apartment with road construction going on outside your window!)  I saw this small spread in the June issue of Marie Claire (have I said before I like this magazine...well I do.)  Anyways it features one of the co-founders of Fresh products, Alina Roythberg and her bathroom (obviously filled with Fresh products.)  But it is interesting on the second page she recommends some other beauty products....will be sure to check out her recommendations.

I about cried when they discontinued the "Soda" shampoo but this and the "Soy" work well too

I have friends who swear by this lip scrub

Not my current Fresh fragrance (am using the Love and Eat from the Eat, Pray, Love collection) but very good

These little babies are great for gifts
