100% Design

Paddington station is lovely as it is above ground, so the platform feels fresh and light

The last time I attended this design exhibition I had to fly over the Atlantic Ocean.  Two years later I only had to hop on the train for an hour or so and then catch the underground.  100% Design while not extremely groundbreaking, helps one to understand what trends have hit the mainstream and have staying power.

The Earls Court exhibition center entrance
Upon entering the show you pass through this lit corridor
An overhead view of a portion of the show, while not a huge exhibition this makes it easier to navigate and see everything
These wall hangings were made out of a felt material....lots of wool blends and felt seen this year
Stainless steel that has either been lasered or chemically etched, they would not reveal
Mercedes was a main sponsor of this event
Lamps made of plastic and feathers...love the gold accent
A beautiful display of wood veneers
This artwork was displayed in the bathroom/kitchen area, maybe milled out of a Corian type material

Fluro Fun

I don't care how one would go about washing them....I want to make my own gradient silver!

I recently came upon stylist/designer/author, Sania Pell.  Totally enamored by her work, I plan to purchase her book "The Homemade Home."  I am impressed with crafty people, but have never really been one myself, but Pell's work makes being crafty look cool and modern!  Check her out: http://www.saniapell.com/

Please see Pell's post about vintage ex-votos....really interesting collection

She simply painted on some berries and flowers to obtain this great modern + organic effect

Belle & Boo

I saw these precious illustrations by Mandy Sutcliffe, creator of the 'Belle and Boo' collection.  She illustrates children, so her creations tend to be a bit sweet for me but I think it is balanced by the modern treatment she gives her drawings.  Check out her illustrations and paper products : http://www.belleandboo.com/index.php

Nouveau Neons

I recently discovered Tom Binns' jewelry.  I would describe his pieces as more statements then just simply trendy jewelry.  I love how he treats iconic status jewelry as a blank canvas on which he places his "graffiti."  Reminiscent of the Stephen Sprouse and Louis Vuitton collection, (one piece which you can see here: http://www.americanina.com/2011/04/bag-list.html) Even his logo is just awesome....But his pieces do not come cheap....some necklaces have prices of $16,000.  Something to dream about.  (Images from http://www.joyce.com/ and http://www.tombinnsdesign.com/)

Ethno Teknic collection

My favorite piece....no doubt someone defaced a treasured inheritance piece

One of his exclusives for Joyce.com

My Favorite Things

Saw this feature in Glamour recently and loved it!  Two of my favorite things : Nails and Dogs!  As we all know nail art is back in a major way.  Check out these links for more nail art interest : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9A_TX-rlfvU

Is this a frenchie or a pug?  I guess pug.

My favorite, as my little frenchie Luna, http://www.americanina.com/2011/07/duffy-ride.html is all black with one white toe

Design Digest

Dwell is on it as I already have the October issue!  Here is some design news across the board....transportation and interior.

I have always like Jack White of the White Stripes but to think he also has design chops...cool!

Street Food

Wynwood Kitchen & Bar in Miami....a blend of art, design and food!  Totally my thing.  Saw this coverage in the August Interior Design magazine and was loving the large graphic like paintings and color loads of color, and the menu doesn't look too bad either.  Check it out if you are ever in Miami...Art Basel Miami soon?  http://www.wynwoodkitchenandbar.com/home.html

Art of Board

Saw this awesome product at ICFF this year, but have yet to write about it.  I ordered some samples and to see them in person it is so much cooler then pictures.  So much awesomeness, let me count the ways: 1.) Fully upcycled product  2.) So many colors and graphic bits  3.) Areas of high use/patina make it more awesome  4.) Tiles come in different patterns  5.) Add more contrast/color by changing your grout color  6.) Did I mention this is a sustainable product?  I could go on....check out Art of Board's story: http://www.artofboard.com/

For those of you like me who like to see how stuff is made....this is the backside of a tile

Wilder Wall

Analog Nights
Keeping with the wallpaper theme this week, presenting.....while she is definitely not new, I still fawn over her contemporary wallpaper patterns.  I have been meaning to purchase "Analog Nights" (above print) from Aimee Wilder for oh about 2 years now.  I had a small sample of the paper hanging above our desktop computer for about 6 months before I had my husband convinced I could get it, since this is technically "his" room.  Alas I will have to wait as I think we will be moving soon and I will have to probably go through the same process with him again.  Check out her masterful work and other product offerings : http://aimeewilder.com/

How clever is she...Ikat pixel!!!

The print that started it all "Robots"
